HEAVY NAPOLEON
A fort housing a cultural meeting and exchange center, as well as a contemporary art gallery and various events.
Napoleon gave the order in 1811 to build this military fort, of the model redoubt n° 2 type, on the top of the Caire hill. Completed in 1821, under Louis XVIII, Fort Caire, which became Fort Napoleon, did not take part in any combat, except in 1944 during the liberation. It has been open to the public since 1984 and houses a centre for meetings and cultural exchanges as well as a contemporary art gallery "La Tête d'Obsidienne". It also hosts various events, including the Cuban festival Bayamo in July and the calendar festivals in December.
