PIVOT COOLER
The most spectacular glacier, to penetrate it a guided visit is necessary in Mazaugues
As early as the 17th century, the Ste-Baume massif hosted an original activity: ice making. Water from springs and streams was collected, channeled and frozen. It was then stored in vast ice houses. With its 23 m height and its storage and conservation capacity of some 3,100 m³, the Pivaut ice house is the most spectacular of all. Restored in the 1990s, the exterior can now be admired. To enter, a guided tour is required (to be booked at the tourist office in Brignoles).
