SENTIER DE DECOUVERTE DU BIOTOPE DE FONDURANE
This trail is located on an arm of Lake Saint-Cassien, in a remarkable natural biotope of 43 hectares
The trail is located on a branch of the Saint-Cassien lake, in a remarkable 43-hectare natural biotope, accessible to the whole family. From the car park, cross the river by the footbridge, then continue on the slightly uphill road. Take the track on the left. You are in the valley of the Carpenée, the track continues and leads to a bend to the left, then slightly uphill. Take the track on the left up to the barrier. Go up to the ornithological observatory, passing through the Fondurane forest to see the birds. There are signs on the path informing you about things not to be missed. Continue the path making a loop, then return to the car park by the same route. If you wish, cross the bridge over the Biançon (a two-headed river formed by the Riou Blanc and Camiole). The landscape is made up of a mosaic of environments. All this diversity allows the site to shelter many migratory birds (182 species observed), aquatic turtles, a particular forest with an oak tree very rare in France. It is therefore advisable for everyone to adopt an eco-responsible attitude, no papers or rubbish, keep animals on a leash, do not go off the marked paths, as the fauna is sensitive and may not come or escape. Smartphone addicts can download the Tracks and Treasures application and launch the Cap Nature circuit in Fondurane to discover the reserve in an interactive way, thanks to visual and audio content. The digital trail is made up of twelve themed stations, hidden along the walkway, allowing you to discover the local fauna and flora: wetlands, aquatic environment, observatory, fish life, remarkable oaks.
