A very popular and purely Provençal local festival in which the olive and olive oil are honoured.
The Fête de l'huile et de l'olive, a true Provencal festival, takes place every autumn in Sainte-Maxime. It's an opportunity to symbolically pick olives throughout the town. It's also an opportunity to raise spectators' awareness of this small fruit, which dates back to ancient times, and from which we derive oils with recognized health benefits. Provençal dancing, exhibitions, concerts, a Provençal mass and crushing enliven the two-day event.
