FORT ST. LOUIS
Fort Saint-Louis is a tower built in 1692 under the orders of Vauban to guard against enemy presence.
Built in 1692 on the orders of Vauban, this tower was originally named "Tour des Vignettes". Its purpose was to warn of any enemy presence. Its heyday came in 1707, when the Anglo-Spanish coalition laid siege to Toulon during the wars of succession to the Spanish throne, to which King Louis XIV had laid claim. Totally destroyed, it was rebuilt in its original form and renamed "Fort Saint-Louis". On August 15, fireworks and the setting ablaze of the fort are one of the most popular summer spectacles.
