ROYAL TOWER
Tower built from 1514 to 1524 by Italian engineer Jean-Antoine de la Porta, open to the public in summer.
This "big tower" with cannons was built between 1514 and 1524 by Italian engineer Jean-Antoine de la Porta on the orders of Louis XII to protect against enemy intrusion. With its 60-meter diameter and 7-meter thick walls, it was the first defensive structure in the harbor. Occupied by the Germans in 1942, it was almost destroyed by American bombing raids. Listed as a historical monument since 1947, it is only open to the public in summer. But you can always stroll around and admire the view over the Mediterranean.
