SILA
It should be noted that SILA, the Intercommunal Union of Lac d 'Annecy has been called the SMLA, the Mixed Union of Lake Annecy for 15 years, but has retained its original name. In 1957, 8 municipalities decided to take action in favor of the environment and to treat waste water flowing into Lake Annecy, which was heavily threatened by pollution. Wastewater is conducted downstream of the lake to be treated and, in 1964, the first purification plant is located in Cran-Gevrier. Today, the SMLA concerns 74 municipalities and 260 000 inhabitants. It deals with wastewater collection and treatment, household waste treatment and other environmental skills, such as improving cycling paths.
