HOTEL ALFONSO XIII * * * * *
Built for the 1929 Expo, it has welcomed crowned heads and served as the filming location for . All prestige.
This is where crowned heads, stars and celebrities stop off, from Real Madrid and Barça players to Madonna, Sophia Loren and the princes and princesses of the kingdom. The hotel was built for the 1929 Ibero-American Exhibition and, inaugurated by Alfonso XIII himself, even had an office! A municipal concession handed over to the Starwood chain (The Luxury Collection), this immense hotel boasts 151 classically styled rooms, including junior suites and suites, all equipped with the essential mini bar and everything else! In a superb location, it is one of Europe's most prestigious hotels, perfectly blending Arabo-Andalusian architecture with valuable period features. Thanks to an investment of 20 million euros, the establishment has undergone a complete grooming (over nine months between 2011 and 2012), a judicious renovation while retaining the spirit of the place. The rooms are decorated in three styles: Castilian, Mudejar and Andalusian. Several bars and restaurants with different atmospheres, a gym, an outdoor swimming pool... There's really nothing missing, except perhaps a spa (in the future?). Not to mention the charm emanating from the patios and the enchanting décor, transporting visitors into another world. If you can't afford to stay there, at least go for an evening drink at its splendid bar. In a brilliantly elegant decor, Antonio, a young and friendly cocktail master, awaits you with a banana for subtle mixes! Note: the Hotel Alfonso XIII was the setting for the film Lawrence of Arabia.

I was also upgraded to a bigger and nicer room, which was very nice.
The hotel is absolutely stunning, aesthetically.
One very minor note of improvement - it looked like the walls of the shower near the back were not adequately cleaned, as there was some visible mild dirt/mold buildup. I hope the hotel will use this as an opportunity to review their specific housekeeping protocol for the showers.
