Blackwood is an elegant new Thai-American restaurant on Chesnutt Street in Marina. Two inviting communal tables can be found by the fireside on the terrace, while inside there are more cosy banquettes with marble cushions and tables. Classic Thai dishes, such as pad thai, oyster mushroom egg rolls and crispy-crusted tiger prawns, coexist with American dishes twisted with Thai flavours, such as the BW Burger, wagyu seasoned with white cheddar, coriander aioli and Thai sesame salad on a brioche bun.

We ate dinner at Blackwood in spite of a less than ideal brunch experience a few years ago. The service was attentive and absolutely wonderful (as it was during brunch). The restaurant is clean, upscale and comfortable. The food we ate for dinner was delicious. We shared a bottle of good quality Chardonnay wine with our meal. The appetizers (fried calamari, lady in the blanket and Mieng kum kung) were prepared perfectly and were delicious. For our main dishes we shared the dinner stone pot and marina treasure. I highly recommend the dinner stone pot. It comes to the table sizzling, seafood cooked to perfection. We said we like spicy, for our taste, it could have been even spicier. But we enjoyed it very much. The marina treasure was bacon wrapped scallops. The presentation was beautiful and the scallops were mild and cooked perfectly. The millionaire’s bacon was thick and smoky. I’m not a fan of smoked food so can’t speak to the taste of the dish, but my husband enjoyed the combination very much. We were too full for dessert but we saw other diners enjoying lovely desserts. I highly recommend this restaurant for a good quality meal in a clean and comfortable environment.

Avoid - cloyingly sweet food, unpalatable. Hostile servers. Extremely loud. Can’t understand the positive reviews or the hype, the negative ones are spot on with our experience. Won’t visit again & wont recommend to anyone.

Did have a bite of the deep fried french toast, found it too greasy/oily.
