Huge hotel facing Union Square, with rooms that rival those in the tower for luxury
It's an institution in Union Square: the Westin St Francis is a monumental 1,200-room luxury hotel comprising a historic 1904 building overlooking the square and a more modern tower overlooking downtown. It's a meeting place for businessmen and heads of state, as well as wealthy tourists. Rooms rival each other in luxury, especially those in the historic buildings, which have just been renovated. Its monumental lobby is also undergoing a major transformation, and will soon welcome a new bar-restaurant worthy of its standing.

The bigger problem was that the hotel is under re-construction, something that wasn't mentioned when I made the reservations, or mentioned on line. That meant that the traditional front entrance was completely sealed off, the restaurant was closed and no lunch or dinner meals could be had on the premises, the hotel bar was relocated to a cozy little speakeasy that you had to leave the hotel and walk to, and there was almost no common area to settle in in any part of the hotel. With all those amenities gone, the effect was similar to staying in an extremely expensive Holiday Inn. Except, at Holiday Inn you can make your own waffles for breakfast.
I will not return here in the future. There are plenty of other quality hotels in the Union Square area to choose from.
The St Francis Hotel at Union Square! Beautiful!
