Hotel located near Union Square, offers spacious and bright rooms at an interesting price/quality ratio

Located a stone's throw from Union Square on the edge of the Tenderloin, this hotel, in the same family for three generations, offers some forty en-suite rooms at low prices for downtown San Francisco. The 1924 building has retained its charm. There are several room sizes, the least expensive being small cocoons, but there are also more spacious ones. All are tastefully decorated and impeccably kept, with a sense of family management that differs from standardized hotels. Parking is also affordable.

Great hotel for budget travelers. Good location and reasonable rates. Only problem was not having a fridge in the room.

The rooms are very small (the smallest I've ever seen in a hotel), and there is no parking. They will "refer" you out to a garage a block away that they say it is in connection with the hotel, but all they hand you is a business card.
The small rooms were nice despite their size, but the bed was so hard that I barely slept either night we were there.
Also, with it being downtown, it was quite noisy.
Between the extra fees, parking, and the security deposit, we paid for the equivalent of 5 nights on a 2 night stay.
It was clean and pretty well maintained though, so for San Francisco, while it was still expensive, it was relatively affordable.
