Budget & Tips

You will need to plan a budget of about 80 to 100 € per night if you want to sleep in a good quality hotel. For young travellers on a limited budget, you will find a multitude of youth hostels, most of them located in the heart of the city and very well maintained (count 15/20 € the dormitory bed). In between, you have all the pensions, apartments to rent. There, you can get away with it for 50 € a night. Some power plants or small companies offer some apartments, while in Portugal it is quite common, but in the capital it is not very common.

To be booked

It is strongly recommended to book your accommodation in advance, especially in high season. In low season you can book a little more at the last minute without worries

What's very local

Many Portuguese people have an apartment in Lisbon for rent on airbnb. There is a lot of abuse because the municipality has been slow to regulate this system. I might as well tell you that we find everything, from very good things to much less good things. Be careful when making your reservation

For food lovers

Most hotels offer breakfast buffets at will. If you take a 4-star hotel, in general you will not be disappointed either in quality or quantity. Enough to make a real feast in the morning. In hostels or boarding houses, it will usually be more basic with fruit, bread and yoghurt with supermarket cereals

Smokers

If you want to be able to smoke indoors, you will have to look at the apartments for rent instead

Tourist traps

Be careful if you rent accommodation directly with the inhabitant or via sites like airbnb. The Portuguese are generally honest people but as everywhere there are scams
