Budget & Tips

You'll need to budget around €80 to €100 per night if you want to sleep in a hotel of a good standard. For those on a tighter budget, you'll find a multitude of options: from online accommodation platforms (Airbnb, HomeExchange etc) to local alojamento (an alternative to traditional hotels) or youth hostels, where you can stay for between €20 and €50 a night. Home-stay accommodation is quite common in Portugal, but not so much in the capital. In any case, there's no shortage of temporary accommodation in Lisbon, so you're bound to find something to suit your taste.

To be booked

We strongly advise you to book your accommodation in advance, especially in high season. In low season, you can be a little more spontaneous.

What's very local

Many Portuguese have an apartment in Lisbon rented out on Airbnb. As this system is not really regulated, you'll find everything from the very good to the not-so-good. Be careful when you make your reservation, and read the comments left by your predecessors.

For food lovers

Most hotels offer an all-you-can-eat buffet breakfast. If you choose a 4-star hotel, you won't be disappointed either in terms of quality or quantity. A real feast in the morning. In hostels or guesthouses, it's usually more basic, with fruit, bread, yoghurt and supermarket cereals.

Smokers

If you want to be able to smoke indoors, you'll have to look at apartments for rent.

Tourist traps

Be careful if you rent accommodation directly from a local or via sites like airbnb. The Portuguese are generally honest people, but as everywhere, there are scams.
