This palace is considered one of the most beautiful and important in Lisbon. It was built in the 16th century and designed by one of the architects of the Hieronymite monastery. Purchased by King Dom Manuel I, and later by the Lancaster family and the Marquis d'Abrantes, the palace was rebuilt to withstand the earthquake of 1755, including the famous porcelain room. In 1909, the palace was sold to the French government and became its embassy.
