ARMA - AGUNG RAI MUSEUM OF ART
Remarkable museum exhibiting superb works on painting, a cultural center offering courses and shows.
ARMA is a gigantic, exciting and magnificent museum inaugurated in 1996. Comprising numerous pavilions, it is in fact a large cultural center where performances and a whole range of art courses are held. Likewise, the section opening onto the main road houses a large library and bookshop. Here you'll find superb works on painting from the 1930s and contemporary painting in Bali and Indonesia. The other pavilions contain high, well-lit rooms exhibiting works by Indonesian and European artists living in Bali. Agung Raï's personal collection is said to be considerable and remarkably eclectic, making it one of the island's cultural must-sees. An extremely pleasant visit to the museum ends with a coffee at the Warung Kopi, nestling in the peaceful gardens. Last but not least, in addition to the many courses on offer, a number of dance and music performances take place every week, for the price of the admission ticket. On weekday afternoons and Sunday mornings, legong dance lessons are given free of charge to children, and the show is highly entertaining. And to top it all off, you can also sleep on site in one of the accommodations on offer: rooms, apartments, villas...
Performances. The place also offers shows and performances such as Legong dance, Topeng Jimat... and many others. Visit their website for descriptions, dates and prices.
