AGUNG RAI MUSEUM OF ART
Remarkable museum exhibiting superb works on painting, a cultural center offering courses and shows.
The Agung Rai Museum of Art is a gigantic, exciting and beautiful museum opened in 1996. Consisting of many pavilions, it is in fact a large cultural center where performances and a whole range of art courses are held. Also, the part opening on the main road houses a large library which is also a bookshop. You'll see some great books on 1930s painting and contemporary painting in Bali and Indonesia. The other pavilions contain high, well-lit rooms that exhibit Indonesian and European artists living in Bali. Agung Rai's personal collection is said to be extensive and remarkably eclectic, making it one of the island's cultural must-sees. The extremely pleasant visit to the museum ends with a coffee at the Warung Kopi nestled in the peaceful gardens. Finally, in addition to the many courses offered, several dance and music shows are held each week for the price of the entrance ticket. On weekday afternoons and Sunday mornings, legong dance classes are given free of charge to children and the show is very entertaining. And to complete the package, you can also sleep on site in one of the accommodations offered: rooms, apartments, villas...
Performances. The place also offers shows and performances like Legong dance, Topeng Jimat... and many others. Visit their website for descriptions, dates and prices.
