From the moment we walked in we were treated to a wonderful experience! Attentive, discreet, friendly and highly informed staff. We chose the 7 course tasting menu and it was out of this world, especially the pesce crudo. It was the highlight of our trip to Venice and I would definitely recommend. Book ahead.

Outstanding food meets outstanding service in this traditional Venetian restaurant that feels like home.
Our crudo was incredibly fresh, the crab pasta melted in your mouth and the sole was perfectly cooked.
Our best culinary experience in the city by a mile.

Recommendations on point, food quality fantastic, clientele also good. The team are amazing, as a solo traveller I haven't experienced service like this in Italy, anywhere else!

The service at Al Covo is exceptional. Bunch of amazing servers. We had the tasting menu and enjoyed most of the 7 course except for one dish which was one of the main course, it was a fried crab dish. The wine selection is also great. Highly recommended from us.

Wait staff was the star of the show. Food a reasonable supporting cast, but no fear of stealing the show. Rules printed in bold on the bottom of the (English) menu were off putting - “minimum 2 courses per person, €8 cover charge per person unless each person spent at least €60, gratuities not included in price”. Of our 14 meals out in Venice, the highest coperto (cover charge) was €2 per person and tipping is not at all customary in Italy (or anywhere in Europe for that matter). Given these strangle “rules”, I can only guess the restaurant has seen 1 too many cruise ship senior citizens ordering an appetizer and a glass of wine only to occupy a table for a few hours…? Sadly would not return.

We had booked our table two weeks in advance and were truly satisfied by our choice. Everything was perfect. The ambiance, wine, food and service. We would recommend it!

Positiv anzumerken ist die große Weinkarten mit vielen Naturweinen. Negativ die Unwissenheit der Bedienung was die Präsentation des Weines anbelangt: Bodensatz wird nicht vermischt, keine passenden Gläser vorhanden. Grundsätzlich gutes Essen, wenn man nicht das Degustationsmenu nimmt. Diesen Fehler machten wir leider. Am Anfang kommen die kalten Vorspeisen (kleiner Teller mit rohem Fisch, Cerviche und Granciola) im 5Minuten Takt so dass wir nach einer halben Stunde bei der Halbzeit des Menus waren. Dann wurde zusammengewartete und synchronisiert. Für die restlichen 4 Gänge (Spaghetti vongole, Scampi und Fritto misto - hier die Zusammenstellung seeehr touristisch) haben wir dann noch eineinhalb Stunden. So etwas kann man nur mit Touristen machen. Der Nebentisch mit Einheimischen hat in der halben Zeit 3 Gänge a la carte gegessen.
Etwas zweideutig ist der Hinweis an Ende der Speisekarte, dass die Bedienung im Preis nicht enthalten sei und man diese nach eigenem Ermessen bezahlen solle. So etwas darf es in Italien nicht geben

Quando la qualità emerge, tutto il resto è noia. Potrebbe sembrare una frase banale e invece questo ristorante esprime il meglio della tradizione veneziana. Un servizio cortese, altamente professionale, denota che il cliente è al centro del loro lavoro e non un semplice turista da "spennare". Eccellente il baccalà mantecato come antipasto, seguito da tagliolini al granchio di grande qualità. E che dire dei dolci?! Spaziali.....
Di spessore la carta dei vini, dove la mia scelta andava dai " cugini" nel vicino Friuli, Venezia non si offenderà.....
Desidero ringraziare il titolare e la gentile signora per l'accoglienza e cortesia dimostrata, segno di grande rispetto, "merce" ormai rara in questo mondo consumistico...

I had an absolutely abysmal experience at Al Covo. I got food poisoning from eating the spaghetti alle vongole and the sea-bass ceviche. I was sick (non-stop vomiting, diarrhea, inability to keep any liquid or food down) from Sunday night (a few hours after my meal there) until Tuesday morning, which ruined the last few days of my stay in Venice.

As for the food itself - ignoring the fact that I got extremely sick from eating it - the experience was average at best. The ceviche was good, but nothing extraordinary. The spaghetti was over-seasoned, had an overpowering taste of wine and the clams were not properly cleaned (I bit down on hard debris). I deeply regret suffering through the plate instead of sending it back, which I should have done without hesitation.

The service was also below par. Inattentive, lazy and pretentious are the most fitting words to describe the service staff. One of the waiters had dirt under his fingernails. I waited 15 minutes from the time I asked for the cheque until I actually paid, even though I reminded two separate waiters that I was still waiting to pay. There were 2 other tables dining there at the time, and 3 waiters.

Overall, I found the experience underwhelming and extremely overpriced, the food (literally) sickening, and the service barely passable.

I will obviously not be returning here and, furthermore, I will be advising anyone who tells me they will visit Venice to avoid this place like the plague.

Nuestra experiencia fue buena en el aspecto de que el servicio es excepcional en todo momento y el local es muy acogedor (quizás las mesas demasiado juntas la una de la otra), es una pena que los platos fueran tan escuetos y el precio tan elevado. Nos lo habían recomendado pero no cumplió con las expectativas.

Délicieux, fin, professionnel. Nous avons diné dans ce restaurant à l’occasion de l’anniversaire de mon mari. Les plats étaient délicieux, frais, à base de bons produits du marché subtilement relevés. Le service était impeccable, souriant et au petit soins.

Das Degustations Menu war ein tolles Erlebnis. 7 Gänge für 87 €, teuer, aber sehr lecker, abwechslungsreich.
Das Service Personal war zuvorkommend, hat sich Zeit für jeden einzelnen Tisch genommen und ab und zu kam ein lustiger Spruch von ihnen.

Service was absolutely impecable!! 10/10.

Desserts were also very enjoyable, however, the rest of the food was a little bit disappointing.

The first antipasti with small shrimps and polenta was quite bland, the polenta did not have a very nice texture, and the shrimps were already crunchy. Also the taste of the polenta was not really there.

The fresh salad with raw fish was extremely nice.

The crab salad would have been very nice as well if the crab meat was not full of little bones, which gave the impression that the last bits of the crab were used.

The tuna steak would have been extremely nice as well if the tuna was cooked 2 minutes more. Even 1 minute more would ve been nice. The sauce and the taste were there, but the tuna was way too raw for a steak course.

No sabría si ponerle 1 o 5 porque se ha ganado el premio al peor restaurante donde he comido en toda mi vida y en todos los países. Era tan malo que sólo he podido comer el bacalao ( bueno pero estrepitósamente caro). Lo demás lo he dejado en el plato y he comido pan. El marisco daba ganas de vomitar. Era viscoso, soso, aguado… eran larvas en la boca… los gnocchis grumosos y grimosos, el atún con alubias aguadas ( en qué cabeza cabe..) me sigue dando ganas de vomitar ????. Decidimos no pedir ni el café.. sitio para turistas con precio de estrella Michelin. Jamás he dejado de comer en un restaurante porque era imposible de comer.
