If you'd like to take a trip to see whales, dolphins or puffins, Whale Safari & Elding offers cruises from the capital. With Whale Safari, excursions are organized in small groups of 12 people on a RIB speedboat to give you an unforgettable experience and a thrill to behold. With Elding, classic boat excursions are also available, as well as northern lights and sea fishing: wifi, coffee on board and even more comfort. The 2 offices are only 5 meters apart.

Whale Safari organizes whale-watching excursions in Reykjavik. Departing from Reykjavik's old harbor aboard semi-rigid boats, you can get up close and personal with whales, dolphins and puffins in their natural habitat, without disturbing them. These excursions are carried out in small groups of 12 people. You can choose between several tours, including: "Classic and original whale watching", "Premium whales and midnight sun", "Premium puffin tour", "Reykjavik northern lights cruise"... RIB Tours with Whale Safari

Whale Safari is Reykjavík‘s original small group whale watching tour operator, in operation since 2006. Our fleet of custom designed RIB boats give us the most up close and personal wildlife watching in Faxaflói bay in the shortest amount of time. We offer whale watching by RIB from 1st of April to 31st of October, as well as puffin watching by RIB during the puffin season - 1st May until ~20th August. All of our tours are small-group, with a maximum of 12 passengers onboard plus an expert captain & biologist guide. Our fleet of RIBs are fitted with shock-absorbing suspension seats for ultimate safety & comfort and we provide warm overalls & safety equipment to all passengers.

Since we operate small-group tours, prebooking is advised through our website. We will be going out on an open boat in the North Atlantic, so it is advised to dress warmly with a few layers, as well as hats & gloves. Given the nature of our fast & fun RIB boats, we have a strict minimum height requirement of 145 cm. In addition, our tours are not recommended for those with a history of back or knee injuries, persons with limited mobility or for pregnant woman. We offer whale watching tours on larger boats all year round and suitable for all ages. Northern Lights Cruises are available from September to April, when the sky is dark enough for the beautiful lights to be seen. Puffin tours are offered when the cute puffins are in Iceland, from May to August. Sea Angling is also offered in the summer - May to September. We only saw one humpback whale during our tour. I understand that this is not their fault, But as I understood it, the boat was mostly circling around the same places, not going to far out.

Crowded boat, very mediocre experience. Maybe it was the time of the year, but you spend very little time with the whales. In 3.5 hrs of being on the boat, we only saw one humpback whale twice. It was so crowded that you couldn’t get a clear visual. I think go with a smaller operator or on smaller boats for a better experience. The crew is knowledgeable and these guys are very well researched.

I had an amazing time I went out on an afternoon tour and it did not disappoint. We were incredibly lucky as we got to see three types of different species. Including the humpback whale which flipped in the air twice.???? staff were extremely kind and knowledgeable they provided us with their expertise during the tour. The boat was quite spacious. Lots of room never felt like I was crammed in. They also have a very sweet gift shop. I would definitely go on this tour again. Also staff take pictures of the species you see with their professional equipment and if you email them, they will send them to you for free which is a nice gesture. Especially for those who aren’t Steven Spielberg. ????
