Campground nestled at the bottom of a majestic ravine, has amenities, children's playground and picnic tables

The Thakgil campsite is one of those places we love in Iceland. Nestled at the bottom of a majestic ravine and surrounded by rugged terrain, it was the setting for the Game of Thrones series. Unfortunately, these settings are also part of the series' success, and the area around the campsite is no longer as tranquil as it once was. On-site sanitary facilities (though not enough), children's games and picnic tables. The cottages are also worth a try. Beware: the access track is recommended by 4×4 as it's not the easiest.

Ein außerordentliches Tal das tief beeindruckt. Campingplatz ist mit WC, Dusche und Infopoint ausgestattet. Außerdem gibt es dort kleine Ferienhäuser. Aber über allem steht diese Lage mit ausgewiesenen Wanderwegen die unglaubliche Eindrücke vermitteln. Vorher Einkaufen was man braucht, das gibt's dort nicht versteht sich.

Such a breathtaking location! We happened to be here during a storm, and unfortunately even though you are surrounded by the hills, the wind and rain was still very brutal, but we would have experienced this wherever we stayed I am sure. The facilities are pretty clean and the stalls are more private than other campsites we went to, which was wonderful.
