THE BEACHES

Barneville-Carteret is a town with three Blue Flag beaches for family fun.
Barneville-Carteret is unique in that it is surrounded by three beaches. All three are regularly awarded the European Blue Flag for water quality. Barneville beach is undoubtedly the most family-friendly: west-facing and supervised in season (July and August), it’s close to the campsites. The beach at Carteret, facing south and located at the foot of the cliff, is also very pleasant, not least because the relief protects it from the wind. It’s also the smallest, and parking there at the height of the season can sometimes be a difficult mission. When the sea recedes, children can safely enjoy the water in the many pools that form, while the more courageous can battle with the waves and currents in the sea. In summer, a drink at the bar La Potinière is a must: you can watch the spectacle of the sea and the beach from the lively terrace above. From Carteret beach, it’s possible to walk (at low tide only!) to Plage de la Vieille Eglise, bypassing Cap de Carteret along the coast. Alternatively, you can park at the old church. This last beach is the wildest: on busy days, it’s absolutely impossible to find yourself on top of each other because the beach is so immense! Note, however, that the old church beach is not supervised, so you’ll need to be extra vigilant: the tide can be unpredictable.

The ratings and reviews below reflect the subjective opinions of members and not the opinion of The Little Witty.
Otherwise, the other beaches Barnevile-Carteret, which are supervised, do not have as much charm than the beach of the chapel but they are very well located not far from the city and campsites.
