BATUKARU ASCENT
Go there and contact
Mount Batukaru is the second highest peak on the Island of the Gods. It culminates at an altitude of 2,276 metres. On a clear day, you can see the lake region by taking a little height, a sublime viewpoint. To climb it, you must start hiking in Wongayagede, the village located 2 kilometers from the Pura Luhur Batukaru temple, the directional temple of the mountain that watches over western Bali. It is one of the main temples of the island, but few tourists visit it, which is pleasant for others. Ask for a guide from Wongayagede, its price should be around 1 000 000 Rp for 1 to 4 people. Walking, long and arduous, takes at least 5 hours to get there, at least 9 hours to get there and back and often much more! Might as well be a little trained and well equipped to undertake this ascent. The ground is loose, the vegetation dense and the climb can only be attempted during the dry season, because the region is far too wet to risk it during the rainy season. The path starts from Pura Luhur Batukaru and goes into a forest of clouds to the summit. Good warm and rainproof clothing should therefore be provided. Due to its length, this hike requires excellent physical fitness. At the very top of the volcano is a small temple annexed to the Pura Luhur Batukaru. It should be noted that this mountain is sacred to the Balinese and is also a place of pilgrimage where many offerings are placed.
Two possible options: To undertake this ascent, you can leave before dawn in the morning and do the trip over a day; this is the most common option. Second option, you can consider sleeping in a tent at the top. This way, it is possible to extend this wonderful experience and especially to enjoy the magnificent landscape. To see with your guide according to the weather and physical conditions of each one, generally, he takes care of everything. Remember that this is one of the wettest areas on the island, so equip yourself accordingly.
