THE FORT OF ALIYSTER
A listed military structure built under Richelieu, it is said to have sheltered the Iron Mask for two days on the island.
A local legend tells that a brave knight who was shipwrecked on the island of Porquerolles delivered its inhabitants from the Lycastre, a creature that was half fish and half dragon with powerful tiger claws... The beast gave its name to the whole bay and to the fort that dominates it. This military work classified as a historical monument was built under Richelieu. Another legend tells that the Fort of Alycastre would have sheltered during two days the Iron Mask during its transfer on the island Sainte Marguerite in Lerins in the bay of Cannes.
