ISLAND OF PORQUEROLLES
A famous island thanks to its color, offering 12.5 km² of exceptionally unspoilt nature with a harbor and a few private homes.
This island is undoubtedly the most famous in the Var region, not least because of the color of the Mediterranean, which in places has nothing to envy the Caribbean or the Seychelles. Just a ten-minute boat ride from the Giens peninsula, Porquerolles seems to rest delicately on the waters of the Mediterranean. A postcard-perfect cliché of permanent enchantment, Porquerolles is one of the three Golden Islands off the coast of Hyères, along with Port-Cros and Ile du Levant. This unspoilt area offers visitors some 12.5 km2 of pristine, exceptional natural beauty, managed by the Port-Cros National Park since 1971 and classified as a "national park heartland" since 2012. With just one harbor, a few private houses that blend in perfectly with their Mediterranean surroundings, a few hotels on a human scale and a charming village where most of the island's human and economic activity has been concentrated since 1920, this paradise-like nature reserve boasts 30 km of wild coastline and some magnificent pine forests with delicately scented essences, inviting visitors to take an enchanting and bewitching stroll. Discovering this island is well worth the effort: it can only be explored on foot or by bike, using the 54 km of marked hiking trails between land and sea, which take the walker from the forest to the sheer cliffs, as well as to some of the more secretive beaches and jagged coves, whose clear, sometimes turquoise waters are a sight to behold.
