Of the five forts on Port-Cros, witness to the island's tumultuous military past, only the Estissac fort is open to visitors
The five forts of Port-Cros still bear witness to its tumultuous military past. With the exception of the fort of Port-Man, located in the eponymous bay, all are installed along the transverse line of the island, and they are connected by the only paved road of Port-Cros. The road of the forts, which begins in the village and ends at the Fort de la Vigie, was built in the 19th century to transport the stones used in the construction of the forts of La Vigie and Eminence. Note: the fort of Estissac is the only one open to the public.
