Located in the heart of the city, the fishing port of Granville is one of the foremost, in tonnage, in Normandy. Although fishing has existed here for centuries, it is cod fishing that has left the greatest mark on the port, particularly at the beginning of the 19th century, when dozens of boats left for several weeks off Newfoundland. Today, about fifty ships are based in Granville, with an annual volume of about 10,000 tons.
