Small Orthodox church whose chapel is dedicated to Panaghia Myrtidiotissa.
This small Orthodox church (Παναγία Μυρτιδιώτισσα) was built on an islet in the middle of the harbor in 1830. The sponsors were passengers from the island of Cythera, whose ship had weathered a terrible storm on January 22, 1829 as it left port. The chapel, dedicated to Panaghia Myrtidiotissa (protector of the island of Kythera), is celebrated on September 24, with hundreds of locals piling onto small boats to attend mass on the islet.
