LE RÉSEAU DE CHALEUR DIJON MÉTROPOLE
An ecological and supportive heating network
In Dijon, the construction and operation of a heating network is now a reality. Dijon Métropole took advantage of the work on the two tramway lines to install a network that will eventually extend over 100 km. In the east, an initial network, entrusted to Dijon Energies (Dalkia, EDF), will heat collective housing and public buildings in a large northeastern quarter of the city. A second network to the west of the city, entrusted to Sodien (Coriance Group), is also being rolled out. Both operations benefit from the financial support of Ademe, the French Environment and Energy Management Agency. The network, which by 2023 will be thefourth largest in France, has been certified as an eco-heating network since 2017, with Dijon Métropole having achieved 50% of its heat production from renewable energies. Less energy dependency, an announced economic cost for subscribers that is 15% lower than gas and the absence of maintenance are among the advantages offered by the network.
The North-East network heats a large half of Dijon and Quetigny
Entrusted in 2011 to Dijon Energies, a subsidiary of Dalkia (EDF Group), for a period of 25 years, this network provides heating for a large eastern half of Dijon and Quetigny. Since December 2014, the wood-fired boiler room equipped with three biomass boilers has been in operation at the Préjoces site to supply the network in the south, which is already supplied in the north by heat from the incineration plant's furnaces. This new wood-fired boiler room, with a capacity of 90 megawatts, guarantees economical and ecological heat, since 80% of the heat supplied by this network is now derived from renewable energy sources. It can be used to heat major facilities (Dijon Métropole headquarters, rectorate, university, university hospital), as well as private residences and low-rent housing, i.e. the equivalent of 23,000 housing units, with the result that bills can be reduced. At the end of 2016, the network was extended to the Stalingrad district, the Deflandre gendarmerie, Hameau de Pouilly social housing and residences in the Montmuzard district. 33 new collective buildings are benefiting from this expansion! The Carrousel swimming pool, the future Dijon-Burgundy private hospital and the first BBC construction of Grand Dijon Habitat in the heart of the Jardins des Maraîchers eco-city are connected.
The western network, in the Fontaine d'Ouche district and in Chenôve, in the heart of the eco-city
The Fontaine d'Ouche heating network, born in 1963 to accompany the development of the ZUP of this district, will considerably extend between the Marcs d'Or, Talant and as far as Chenôve. This network has been entrusted to Sodien for 24 years as part of a public service delegation from the Dijon metropolis. Since spring 2015, the new Valendons boiler room has been in operation, while the two former boiler rooms at Fontaine d'Ouche and Chenôve will be renovated with gas cogeneration and gas boilers as back-up. This network supplies thousands of inhabitants of western Dijon with green and economical heat. Eventually, the network will be extended to the neighbouring districts of Les Bourroches, Eiffel, Motte Giron and Arsenal.
New municipalities will benefit from it. First of all the districts of Dijon, but also Talant, Fontaine-Lès-Dijon and Longvic, i.e. 23.5 kilometres more. Eventually, the network should heat the equivalent of 50,000 homes.
