The history of the Neyrat umbrella factory dates back to 1852 in Autun. The company is now located in an 18th-century private mansion. In 1875, Neyrat, which employed four hundred people, was the first umbrella manufacturer in France. After relocating to China to supply supermarket distribution, Neyrat is relocating a workshop in Autun in 2014 to manufacture its high-end umbrellas, with several major haute couture brands entrusting their production to it. Autun's manufacturing workshop is occupied by four people, operators who, during your visit (booking required), interrupt their craftwork to welcome you, explain their work and sell you an umbrella, which you rarely miss. Please note that if you stay for a while in Autun, you can order an umbrella à la carte in its mechanics, fabric and handle, a precise and custom-made job. Neyrat's umbrellas are particularly sturdy and don't turn over at the first gust of wind. In addition to these demonstrations, group visits of more than 30 people can be organized, including a free historical and technical visit, where you just paid when you get out, or if if you buy an umbrella. Being proud to be Burgundian also means setting up manufacturing sites, which is something very well done in Autun.
