LANMARY FOREST
State forest ideal for walking or mushroom picking in Antonne-et-Trigonant. Numerous hiking trails.
Covering more than 840 hectares to the east of Périgueux, this state-owned forest is ideal for walking or mushroom picking in season. It's also a formidable reservoir of history: follow in the footsteps of the King of the Chauzes and his limestone throne, the Merovingian cemetery or the cluzeaux that sheltered men and goods underground. The Château de Caussade, a 12th-century polygonal fortress, is well worth a visit, right up to its high walls built behind a dry moat. Follow the many signposted hiking trails and choose your own loop.
