Church among the architectural jewels of the Perigord, houses sculptures of great mastery
The church of Saint-Martin de Besse is one of Périgord's architectural gems. The first stones were laid in the 11th century, some 1,000 years ago. Overlooking the village, it is remarkable for its historiated three-arched portal surmounted by a lozenge. The masterly sculptures depict the seven deadly sins, the earthly paradise, the Paschal lamb, a hunting scene, the Virgin and Child and Saint Michael slaying the dragon.
