Benedictine abbey with an abbey church, gallery and Romanesque bell tower of the 11th century, guided tour and night visit proposed.

Legend has it that Charlemagne founded this Benedictine abbey for the diocese of Périgueux, where he is said to have deposited the relics of one of the Holy Innocents named Sicaire. The abbey includes the abbey church, a gallery, an 11th century Romanesque bell tower built on a rock, a monastic building and a magnificent exhibition room under the roof. The route along the cliff allows you to contemplate the troglodytic jewel of the cave of the Last Judgement and its bas-reliefs sculpted in the rock. The fountain dedicated to Saint Sicaire was frequented for its curative and fertile virtues. Pierre de Bourdeille, the famous author Brantôme (1540-1614) was the abbot of the church. Children will appreciate the free downloadable game books to investigate the abbey. Guided tours are organised from Easter to All Saints' Day by reservation for groups at a preferential rate. In July and August, the night tours will enchant you and immerse you in a mysterious atmosphere. Please note that the tour is wheelchair accessible with an aid. The ticket office is located at the Tourist Office or on site. You can take advantage of grouped tickets: cloister + church + bell tower, abbey cave + Desmoulin museum (free or guided) and cave + museum + church + cloister + bell tower (guided).

In season, expect a lot of people and a lot of waiting... It's worth it! So wait with an ice cream in your hand while watching the water flow by the abbey... or the canoeists!

Magnifique lieu !
