CHÂTEAU DE GURSON
Château de Gurson, built in the century, had an eventful history before becoming a wine estate in the century.
Built in the 12thcentury , Gurson castle was razed to the ground in 1254 by Henry III, King of England. The building was rebuilt in the 14thcentury , and the counts of Foix-Gurçon held the seigneury until the 18thcentury . It was to one of the countesses, Diane de Foix-Cancale, that Montaigne dedicated the chapter of his Essais entitled "De l'institution des enfants" ("On the institution of children"). It fell into ruin during the French Revolution. Imposing ruins remain: ramparts, collapsed gatehouse, towers, stone staircase. Since 1903, it has been a wine estate producing top-quality white wines.
