How to get there - Rio De Janeiro
Corcovado, Santa Teresa and Sugarloaf
Steps: Rio De Janeiro
Arrival at airport and transfer to hotel. Ascent to Corcovado, symbol of the city of Rio. Descend to Santa Teresa, one of Rio's neighborhoods, home to the bohemian Carioca, then a short trip to Lapa. In the late afternoon, take the cable car to Sugarloaf for an unforgettable sunset. Some tourist agencies offer these day tours in a van with a guide.

Rio, the favelas and the center
Steps: Petrópolis
A morning visit to a favela with a social association: a glimpse into Rio's other reality. In the heart of these "outlaw" working-class neighborhoods, Brazilians organize themselves and live in dignity and solidarity. Afternoon visit to downtown Rio: Imperial Palace, National Museum of Fine Arts, Church of Our Lady of Candelária.

Paraty
Steps: Paraty
A detour to Paraty, a superb colonial town 3 hours' drive from Rio on the Costa Verde, is recommended. Visit the town, its small stores and good restaurants.
Paraty and back to Rio
After visiting the city on the previous day, take a morning boat trip to float peacefully down to breathtaking wild beaches. Return to Rio in the afternoon.
Iguaçu Falls on the Brazilian side
Steps: Parque Nacional Do Iguaçu
Domestic flight Rio - Iguaçu. Arrival at the airport and transfer to the hotel. Leave as soon as possible for Iguaçu National Park, one of the natural wonders of the world. On the way back to Foz do Iguaçu, stop off at Parque das aves, home to hundreds of species of birds native to Brazil and other tropical countries.

Iguaçu Falls on the Argentine side
Steps: Parque Nacional Iguazú
Head for Argentina for a day's walk close to the falls. The Argentine side offers the most spectacular view of the falls. Various adventure tours are offered by the Macuco Tour agency, for example, where you approach the falls by boat, but is this really necessary? Return to Foz in the late afternoon.
Heading for Manaus
Steps: Manaus
Flight Iguaçu - Manaus. Afternoon city tour. Visit to theOpera House. Then visit the floating port designed by English engineers in the early 20th century, a technological feat for its time. An obligatory stop at the market, where you can return early in the morning to watch the ballet of dockers unloading fruit, vegetables and fish of impressive size.

Meeting the waters
Steps: Manaus
A day between the dark waters of the Rio Negro and the yellowish, earth-toned Solimões (whose union gives rise to the Amazon). We plunge into a labyrinth of water and vegetation. Arrival at the Lodge. In the afternoon, excursion by pirogue along the igarapés (canals flooded during the rainy season) to meet a family of Caboclos (for example).
Amazon rainforest
A day dedicated to discovering the "green hell", its flora, fauna and indigenous peoples. Night at the Lodge. The agency will tell you if you need anti-malarial treatment. Not all areas of the Amazon are malaria-free. Guides are trained, accredited and experienced.
Last day at the Jungle Lodge
At dawn, you can watch the ballet of birds leaving their nocturnal refuge. A guaranteed spectacle of sound and color. Then, a final stroll around the lodge. After lunch, return to Manaus, followed by a domestic flight from Manaus to Salvador. Arrival at Salvador airport and transfer to hotel.
A stroll through Salvador

City tour. The city of Salvador is an open-air museum. The historic Pelourinho district has been revitalized since its classification by UNESCO in 1985. The Baroque churches, including the marvellous São Francisco Church, are overloaded with gilding. The upper town is one of the best-preserved ensembles in Latin America.

Bahia de Todos-os-Santos
Steps: São Félix
Discover the Bay of All Saints. This bay is dotted with numerous islands. You can usually take the ferry from the lower town to theisland of Itaparica, the largest in the bay, or to smaller but equally beautiful islands such asFrades. Further down the bay, the towns of São Felix and Cachoeira are very pleasant.
Coconut Coast
Steps: Imbassai
Head for the north and its superb coastline. You can visit the famous hippie village ofArembepe (whose inhabitants include Janis Joplin), then 85 km further north, visit Praia do Forte, a long (12 km) sandy beach lined with coconut palms. Recommended stopover at the Tamar turtle conservation project. You can continue on to the much quieter Imbassai.
