How to get there
Buddhism
Steps: Shanghai
You can start your visit by the temple of the Buddha of Jade, north-west of the city (Yu Fo Si, on Anyuan Lu). This temple, one of the rare ones in Shanghai still inhabited by monks, is famous for its two Buddhas, brought back from Burma to the 19th century and carved in a single white jade room. Then go down the south of the city towards the Jing'an temple. It is the oldest Buddhist altar in the city, dating back as far as 247 after Jesus. Today, the Jing'an temple, whose name means "peace and quietness" is located in the heart of one of Shanghai's busiest main roads.

The temple built in 1863 and completely destroyed during the cultural revolution was rebuilt in 2004.
