Timetable
The opening hours of art galleries, craft villages and delicatessens are hardly uniform, but they usually run from 8am to 7pm, Monday to Saturday. Sunday opening hours for stores that are not closed are sometimes shorter. Supermarkets are open six or seven days a week, from 8am to 7pm, and some even until 9 or 10pm. Finally, most shopping malls open every day around 6-7am and close between 10pm and midnight.

In Uganda, Black Friday was introduced a few years ago. At the end of November, supermarkets are invaded by a horde of shoppers. Online retailers, led by Jumia (www.jumia.ug), are particularly busy on this occasion...
What's very local
As well as a bottle of waragi and a packet of arabica, if you want to treat yourself, don't hesitate to buy an ekiibo. This basket, made from natural fibers, is a genuine Ugandan specialty. More generally speaking, if you're looking to buy local handicrafts, bet on basketry!
Tourist traps
In the handicraft villages, where you can fill your hood with souvenirs, the pieces on display are generally of fairly good quality and rarely counterfeit. The problem is that many of them - sometimes stamped "made in Uganda" - actually come from other countries (Kenya, South Africa, Tanzania...). So when it comes to authenticity, we're out...
