Practical information : Going out NorThern Islands Of The Aegean Sea
Timetable
Summer cinemas, open air, usually offer a screening around 10pm as it has to be dark for the projection. Clubs and nightclubs open around midnight and stay open until the wee hours of the morning, around 5-6am and depending on the number of people.
Budget & Tips
On the islands, tickets to bars and clubs are free. For the summer cinemas, you will have to pay about 5-8 € per session, depending on the island.
Night transport
The bus network is very limited on the islands, so you will not be able to rely on public transportation to get home from a party, unless a private shuttle has been arranged. For outings, plan to call a cab, making sure it can take you home later in the night. Otherwise, you will have to rely on your own little legs or the motorized - but not alcoholic! - of a party partner.
Age restrictions
There is no legal age to consume alcohol in private in Greece. To drink and consume alcohol in a café or public place you have to be 18 years old, but this law is not very well enforced and no one will ask for an ID card from a young person who orders a glass of alcohol.
What's very local
The islanders have a sense of celebration and any occasion is good to get together and dance the night away. Especially during the summer festivities of panigyria, to celebrate the patron saint of the island or the village. On these occasions, you will see the whole island and all generations eating, drinking, dancing and singing for sometimes several days!
Smokers
Today, the law against smoking in public places finally applies. It is therefore forbidden to smoke inside bars, discotheques and other night spots. Smokers will be limited to the terraces.
