CASTLE THE BISHOP
The new lord, Gérard de Colombières, opened the doors of his castle to the public to revive it. The 14th century estate was redesigned until the 16th century. Summer palace of the bishops of Périgueux, until the revolutionary period, it was included in its entirety in the additional inventory of historic monuments, affiliated with the Vieilles Maisons Françaises and the Demeure Historique. Saint Vincent de Paul was ordained a priest in 1600 in the castle chapel. Two polygonal towers decorated with beautiful sculptures contain spiral staircases, the walkway offers a beautiful view of the surroundings. The owner adds a few anecdotes and pages of history to the visit. A beautiful English-style park surrounding the castle has been restored, with nearly 700 hydrangeas, and trees several hundred years old can be admired. A 17th century bridge spans a dry moat. Guest rooms are provided in the towers and the guard room is open for rent for receptions, weddings, company seminars and film shoots. The ground floor of the castle (old kitchens) leads to a large private terrace lined with boxwood and yew trees.
