FERME DU PARCOT
A place in Echourgnac to raise awareness of the country architecture of the Double region, with a rare covered gallery.
Built in wood and cob, the Parcot Farm is a place to learn about the peasant architecture of the Double, the transformation of the rural world and the discovery of flora and fauna. It is also next to the leisure area of the Jemaye pond, to which it is linked by a hiking trail. Developed by the association La Double en Périgord, the Parcot farm bears witness to the fragility and poverty of the habitat of this region of the Double, closely integrated into the landscape. No stones or very few, rather wood and earth. This farm, which still has a rare covered gallery, is an evolved form of local architecture and allows us to imagine what the agricultural activity was like in the area not so long ago. It was inhabited until 1991 by a certain Abel Guionneau who drank water from the well and lit himself with candles until his death. He decided to leave his house to an association under certain conditions: that everything be preserved as it was. His last wishes were respected as it has been transformed into an eco-museum. Free walk or guided tours. Activities are regularly offered: photo contest or seed barter, workshops are organized: vegetable dyes, bread making or discoveries of nature. Since 2019 and for the reception of groups: the Doubloparcot is articulated to the Parcot and the park of Doublorigène with workshops, games and discovery trails, what to spend an instructive day in the open air.
