FORGES D’ETOUARS
Full-scale forges until 1890 produced cast iron, steel, cooking pots and cannons for the navy.
From the end of the 17th to the end of the 19th century, Périgord was one of the cradles of the iron and steel industry in France. The 169 forges produced cast iron, irons, steel, pots and firebacks, and cannons for the navy. The Etouars forge operated at full capacity until 1890. The Espace fer et forges museum retraces the region's metallurgical past. A trail explains the history of this production center, which employed around a hundred men during the winter. This educational trail puts the industrial past and local life into perspective.
