THE POETRY BENCH CIRCUIT
Excideuil, a charming town in the Dordogne, is home to an original and poetic circuit: the Circuit des Bancs à Poèmes. This project, part of the Fondation de France's "Nouveaux Commanditaires" program, was commissioned from Jacques Jouet by the inhabitants of the Church district, in collaboration with the Centre d'Actions Culturelles. Inspired by the residents' stories and memories, Jacques Jouet created 19 poems that were engraved on benches installed in the village center. These poems, written in a form established in the Middle Ages by the excideuillais troubadour Giraut de Borneilh, have become an integral part of the daily life of the inhabitants. As visitors stroll through the streets of Excideuil, they can discover these poems that invite them to daydream, to reflect on the passage of time and to meditate. A unique experience that allows visitors to discover the cultural and artistic richness of this town.
