GABARRES CAMINADE
A famous flat-bottomed gabarre, once used to transport goods up the Dordogne to Bordeaux.
The tradition perpetuated by the Caminade family, the last gabarrier of La Roque-Gageac under Napoleon III, is represented today by Pierre and Christelle in the respect of the trade. From La Roque-Gageac, you can go downstream on this famous gabarre, a flat-bottomed boat which was used in the past to transport goods on the Dordogne to Bordeaux. Today the boats are powered by quiet, eco-efficient engines. The 6.5 km trip takes 55 minutes. Audioguides in 8 languages, including Japanese and Chinese.
