GROTTE DE BARA-BAHAU
Cave famous for its cave art, with strata and stalagmites leading to the room featuring prehistoric animals
This vast natural gallery was discovered in 1951 and classified as a historic monument in 1961. For 100 metres, eccentric marine strata and stalagmites lead to the large room engraved 15,000 years ago. Various Upper Paleolithic animals are represented: horses, cattle, ibex, deer, bears, as well as signs unusual for the period. Bear scratches are visible on the rock. This is one of the oldest sites in the memory of mankind in terms of cave art (Middle Magdalenian).
