CHATEAU DE MONBAZILLAC
You are in the largest sweet wine vineyard in the world. Interactive and technological visits for the wine of the 21st century.
After almost a year's work, you can now discover this architectural gem built between 1550 and 1582 by the Lord of Aydie on a hill overlooking Bergerac. This16th-century monument, halfway between fortress and manor house, has been owned by the Monbazillac winery since 1960. From up here, you can dominate a large part of the vineyards and the valley. Inside the building, Grand Siècle furnishings and decorations can be found in the ceremonial rooms. But the entire tour has been staged. From the entrance pavilion, you'll have access to a new experience with two options: Parcours Monbazill'Art, a self-guided tour of the site, with a wine tasting at the end of the visit of your choice from among the cellar's wines. The tasting takes place in the boutique area, with a breathtaking view of the Château. Parcours Monba'licieux, a self-guided tour of the site and themed tasting of 3 wines, with commentary by a professional in the aroma pavilion. Another new feature is the Monbassadeur Pass, which gives you unlimited access to the Château for one year.
This new immersive tour blends technology and robotics with the experience of local men and women. The tours take you to a 300 m² permanent exhibition room to discover "a noble wine". Get to know this very special fungus Botrytis Cinerea, the history of the cooperative and the importance of this terroir, presented in a spectacular video fresco retracing the 4 seasons in the Monbazillac vineyard.
A triptych of exhibitions forms part of the visit to the Château, with the cellars serving as the backdrop for a grape investigation for children.
The history of Bergerac at the heart of the Protestant uprisings in 2 chronological rooms: the beginnings of the Reformation in Périgord, then the consequences of the Huguenot trade and its benefits for the Bergerac economy.
The Bacalan family and the French Revolution, through 5 rooms and total immersion. Listen to their stories, judge the spirit of the women behind the scenes. Sit alongside them in the salon to hear them debate the situation.
The third exhibition of contemporary art, which renews itself every two to three months. Information is available on the website.
Discover the secrets of wine in the aroma pavilion, enjoy the view over the valley and Bergerac, have a bite to eat, before finishing the visit in the boutique to find out more about the new range of wine developed by the cooperative and which you will take home from this visit
