PAPETERIE DE VAUX
The Vaux paper mill stands on the site of ancient forges known since the century, on a tributary of the Auvézère river
The Vaux paper mill is located on a tributary of the Auvézère, on the site of ancient forges known since the 17th century. The blast furnace forge was located slightly downstream. In 1861, the two forges were converted into a paper mill to produce, among other things, the famous "butcher's paper" from a rye-straw-based pulp. This is the last factory in Europe to feature an intact, period production line. Purchased by the commune and classified as a historic monument, it has been restored and transformed into an 800 m² museum space.
