The Campniac ferry that links, via rue de Campniac, the district of Vésone located in the commune of Périgueux and Chamiers, on the left bank of the Isle, is part of the collective memory of the oldest. In the 15th century, the ferry already existed as a place of passage. A guinguette was set up there in the 1940s. At the beginning of the 1960s, the baccalaureate was abolished for no good reason. The former mayor of Coulounieix-Chamiers, Michel Dasseux, who had experienced the last years of this famous baccalaureate, had it reinstated in 2003. It is now under the jurisdiction of the agglomeration: it is the Grand Périgueux which maintains it and puts it into service from spring to autumn. It's a pleasure to jump on board and use your muscles to get across. Tourists, local residents and sports enthusiasts rub shoulders and help each other to get from one bank to the other and enjoy this somewhat unusual transport in a setting full of charm and tranquillity.
