HOTEL GROS DE BELER
Private mansion closed to visitors, but very interesting: Historic monument, Victor Hugo's residence, facade relocated...
The Hôtel particulier de la Division - or Gros de Béler - is a heritage survivor! Built in 1783 to a design by Victor Louis, architect of Bordeaux's Grand Théâtre, it has housed distinguished guests such as Victor Hugo and his mistress. The passage of time threatened the building, leading to its partial listing as a Monument Historique in 1960. In 1962, the owner moved the building 10 m to align it with the other private mansions on the shady Allées de Tourny. Unfortunately, it is not open to the public.
