CHÂTEAU DE LACYPIERRE
This castle shelters a very beautiful collection of earthenware of the XVIIIth century, animal bronzes, furniture and family objects
The castle of Lacypierre is a jewel in a green setting and opens to visitors in April. The building was built between the 15th and 17th centuries, on a 13th century stump. The castle is worth a visit for its location, its thick roofs of slate, its polygonal tower housing a staircase of the 16th century and its square tower housing a dovecote. In 1462, it became the country house of the Benié de Lacypierre, an old Périgord family of magistrates and royal officers, who rebuilt the estate. The last representative of this honourable family, Guillaume Benié de Lacypierre (1734-1826) was bodyguard to Louis XV and Louis XVI and then aide-de-camp to Philippe de Noailles, Duke of Mouchy. It was his grandson Julien Lavergne de Cerval who created the gardens of Marqueyssac, not far from the estate. Serge and Annick Lebon, the now deceased owners, acquired this property, which they saved from ruin. They looked into the history of the castle, which Annick tells in a book published in 2018 "Lacypierre, la mémoire retrouvée". Today it is their daughters, Isabelle and Florence, who show visitors around their childhood home, fully furnished, where they have so many memories. You can discover a beautiful collection of 18th century earthenware, animal bronzes, furniture and family heirlooms, souvenirs of Indochina. Free visit of the exterior and of the exhibition explaining the extent of the restoration work undertaken and its different stages.
