Capital of Corsica and city of Bonaparte, Ajaccio is often the port city of your arrival on the island of beauty whether by ferry or by plane. This city does not lack attractions. Cultural to begin with, with historical monuments such as the Fresch Palace which houses the Fine Arts Museum or the Maison Bonaparte (national museum). As for nature, the Mediterranean coastline and jewels such as the Sanguinaires Islands, rich in Corsican biodiversity, will delight lovers of a preserved environment. Ajaccio offers you above all a specific way of life articulated around gastronomic pleasures and moments of relaxation around an aperitif, a swim, a visit to an art exhibition or a concert of Corsican polyphony. Don't miss a visit to the baroque cathedral of Notre-Dame (16th century) which houses works by Delacroix and Tintoretto. Ajaccio is a small, dynamic, charming and touristic city that requires several days to discover its richness. Find your way easily with the main arteries that are the Cours Napoléon and the Boulevard du Roi Jérôme. Take the time to go to the outskirts by electric bike or for a hike. Join the garrigue and the scrubland, take the height to enjoy magnificent panoramas, even a sumptuous sunset, on the city, its gulf and the sea.
The cultural and patrimonial richness of Ajaccio assures a tourist attraction to the capital of Corsica all year round, with festivals, seminars and other festivities scheduled in all seasons. But of course it is the summer that sees the high tourist season when the sun shines and the sea temperature is pleasant. If you stay in Ajaccio in May and October, when the temperatures remain mild and there are fewer tourists, you will benefit from lower rates than in the height of summer. The least touristy months are November and January. But you are in a capital city, you do not suffer as inland from the closure of all tourist facilities. All in all, you can stay in Ajaccio whatever the season. Flights and ferries connecting the island to the mainland are less numerous, but still regular. Come during religious holidays, Christmas, Easter, Holy Week, to measure the popular fervor and the survival of traditions.
Ajaccio is characterized by a Mediterranean climate and a generous sun. In autumn and spring, violent storms are frequent. Winters remain mild and snow is rare. The city center is better spared from wind and rain than the airport area or the coastline. The summer heat and dryness are tempered by the proximity of the sea, except when the sirocco blows. In summer, temperatures sometimes exceed 40°C, in winter they are rarely negative.
