CHÂTEAU DE FÉNELON
A beautiful castle, whose roofs are famous. A world star with its many film shoots and soap operas.
Erected on a rocky promontory, the castle of Fénelon, classified as a historical monument, served as a lookout for the Dordogne Valley. It is reached by a small road: what a wonder to discover at the corner of a bend this medieval fortress, with its four towers and its double fortified enclosure! It is a remarkable example of military construction, unique in the region. The castle, whose oldest parts date back to the 13th century, has been altered at different times, but it has kept its magnificent roof of lauzes (these large limestone slabs that can weigh up to 900 kg per m²). Its fascinating history is judiciously evoked during the visit, organized according to a very instructive path through the centuries. An important place is given to François de Salignac who was born there (his room is still intact). He became Archbishop of Cambrai, and was one of the strongest personalities of the time of Louis XIV. He was also a prolific author with very innovative ideas. A very beautiful authentic furniture, a cabinet of curiosities, collections of old jugs, culinary objects and especially weapons and armors make this castle a place to visit absolutely. From the terraces, the 360° view is breathtaking. It reveals a territory that has remained very protected and takes the eye far, far away... We can imagine the English troops that came to assault the castle. The authenticity of this castle has attracted many film shoots, including The Last Duel, by Ridley Scott.

Il est très bien entretenu et en plus il est meublé. Ne pas oublier de visiter la cave voûtée et la charpente de la Tour des confiture. Magnifique
