ABBAYE DE LIGUEUX
Legend has it that it was founded by Charlemagne, who gave it a relic of the venerable Saint Simeon. A real "investigation" of meaning!
This ancient abbey has survived the millennium, nestling in the hollow of a valley forming a clearing, surrounded by tall woods. The village of Rigueux grew out of its proximity to this religious edifice. Its buildings have seen growth, pillage, epidemics and misery... It has been ruined many times, and rebuilt just as many times! In 1610, it created a priory in Périgueux. The abbey church, dating from the 12th century, remains the most important of the old buildings. Numerous remains can be visited, including the exterior, the well and the outbuildings.
