MONASTÈRE DE LA TRANSFIGURATION
Monastery autonomous thanks to the manufacture of jams and the breeding of ewes by their community. Public welcome on Sundays.
Founded in 1978 by Father Elie, prior of the community, the first monastery installed in the neighboring hills of the Lot did not allow for easy construction, so it was decided to move in 1990 to a nearby location. The farm of Neguizat near Terrasson was then suitable for their activities of reception and agricultural production. The monastery asserts its Greek origin, from the region of Mount Athos. It refers to the rule of Saint Basil, and the architecture of its church with its dome recalls its Byzantine origins.
The community produces delicious jams, but also valorizes the nuts harvested on the farm and is especially recognized for its excellence in the selection of a flock of sheep, which has won many awards at the Paris Agricultural Show. The community is also dedicated to the management of a large library.
In 2010 (20 years after arriving in Terrasson), a store was opened. It offers for sale the products of the community, as well as those of other abbeys more or less close by (some of them located in North Africa). Named Athos Agora, it is near the monastery on the road going from Terrasson to Brive. The services are called Agrypnie: you can participate in them on feast days or on Sundays(ask beforehand). The reception is assured by the community. You will be able to discover the new church which is at the end of its construction. The monastery also has its own online store.
