JARDINS DE MARQUEYSSAC
Unique and romantic gardens that offer shaded walks lined with 150,000 hand-trimmed, century-old boxwoods.
The romantic and picturesque gardens of Marqueyssac, a listed site, offer more than 6 kilometers of shaded walks around the castle covered with lauzes (limestone), lined with 150,000 hundred-year-old boxwoods pruned by hand, and embellished with belvederes, rock gardens, waterfalls and green theaters. You will enjoy getting lost in the maze of paths that wind between the round boxwoods, trees, hedges and wooden arches. You can spend a few hours there! In addition to these bucolic strolls, some nets of accrobranches are installed in the forest, at the end of the gardens (the big ones have as much fun there as the small ones). There are many viewpoints from Marqueyssac, since the gardens overlook the valley: you can admire it from the belvedere, accessible by three different routes. A real bubble of greenery and romance, the domain welcomes free roaming peacocks: the magnificent blue-green birds add to the enchantment of the place! For a more historical interest, the Marqueyssac gardens also feature a 150 million year old dinosaur skeleton: a 75% preserved allosaurus, 7.50 m long and 2.50 m high. Something you don't see every day! The animations of the garden are not in rest: a via ferrata is accessible free of charge on the side of cliff (sensitive souls, abstain), one can attend the manufacture of small objects out of boxwood... And, in summer, every Thursday evening, the nocturnes are an enchantment illuminated by 2 000 candles.
